COURSE OBJECTIVES: The workshop aims to consolidate the knowledge of the English language by providing students with all the linguistic tools needed for positions as interpreters and/or cultural mediators in the migration sector. 
 
CONTENTS:
 
Introduction to Intercultural Mediation:

Definition and fundamental principles of intercultural mediation;

Role of the intercultural mediator in contemporary society;

Conflict Management:

Types of conflicts and strategies for management;

Effective communication techniques (such as dialogue and negotiation) in conflict contexts;

Mediation Exercises:

Simulations of intercultural conflict situations;

Analysis and discussion of results;

Interpretative problems due to different cultural values;

Practice of Intercultural Mediation:

Presentation of intercultural mediation experiences in various contexts;

Analysis of case studies.

Lectures and seminars;

Mediation and conflict management exercises;

Case analysis and discussion of results;

Presentation of intercultural mediation experiences.
 
Materials:
 
Reference texts on intercultural mediation and conflict management

Case studies of intercultural conflict

Mediation tools such as dialogue, negotiation, and conflict resolution

Evaluation:
 
Active participation in lectures and seminars (30%)

Mediation and conflict management exercises (20%)

Case analysis and discussion of results (20%)

Presentation of intercultural mediation experiences (30%)

Requirements:
 
Knowledge of the English language at B2/C1 level (English)

Theoretical and technical knowledge of the linguistic mediation

The topics of the course are conveyed by means of  face-to-face lectures and practice sessions. Active participation of students is expected, also through the presentation of individual and/or group work so as to acquire the  methodologies and the ability to work independently and conduct analysis.
 
The methodology proposed by this course shall be interactive, with ideas for discussion, educational materials, practical workshops, acquisition of operational tools, and examination of expert materials.
